Elon Musk’s automotive and clean energy company, Tesla Inc., has officially launched its recruitment drive in India, marking its much-anticipated entry into the domestic electric vehicle market.
The company has announced 13 job openings on its official website, offering roles in-vehicle services, sales, operations, and business support specifically in the Mumbai region. On Linkedin, Tesla also posted a job opening for a customer engagement manager.
Tesla Inc. has not officially announced a definitive plan to enter India, but the development aligns with Elon Musk’s meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the U.S.
Tesla offers electric vehicles, energy storage solutions, and solar products. Its vehicle lineup includes the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y, along with the Cybertruck and Tesla Semi. The company also provides Powerwall, Powerpack, and Megapack for energy storage, and solar panels and solar roof for renewable energy generation.
In 2023, the firm entered into a five-year lease agreement with Tablespace Technologies to lease a 5,850 sq. ft. office in Pune. Last year, media reports also suggested that the company planned to open showrooms in New Delhi and Mumbai, India, targeting 3,000 to 5,000 sq. ft. outlets with accompanying service hubs.
Tesla has been eyeing the Indian market previously but was redundant due to its steep import duties. However, recent policy shifts, including a cut in basic customs duty on luxury EVs over $40,000 from 110% to 70%, have made India a more appealing destination for the automaker.
